Marc, the owner of Burnsville Trailer Hitch, contacted me last week to have a custom sign fabricated for his showroom, We had a chance to meet and discuss different options. Here are the pictures to show the process of making this piece!
-
Cutting the 12ga face plate as big as I can on my 4×8 CNC plasma table. -
The ring sections are cut from 3/8″ steel and ready to be welded together. -
A little bit of grinding before welding. -
A closeup of a weld bead -
Grinding the inside edge of the ring. It is heavy! -
I use the heads of carriage bolts to create the look of rivets. Here they are ready to be welded into the ring from the backside. -
The face plate is welded to the backside of the ring. -
The sign flipped over to show for the first time what it looks like! -
A closeup! -
After rolling a 2″ strip of steel, I’m ready to weld it to the back of the sign. -
Another ring is welded around the inside to hold the LED’s. -
Ready the start the process of chemically rusting the piece. -
Here is a detail of the hanging bracket. Because of the weight of the sign, the bolts need to be screwed into wall studs. -
First time with the LED’s turned on. -
Another view! -
Here it is, with one of the many colors to choose from! -
A closeup! -
The programmable remote control. -
Another closeup, and ready for pickup!
