With the move to our new home, there is no opportunity for my wife to have a flower garden. To give her some space for flowers, I decided to make some aluminum stands to hold aluminum diamond plate planter boxes in the future. This project will give me a chance to practice TIG welding aluminum, which I have not done a lot so far. The plan is to have the stands powder coated as a finish. Here are the pictures of making the stands!
-
I made some adjuster blocks to fit into aluminum square tubing. -
Fused the blocks in place with my TIG welder. -
After cleaning the ends. -
Welding the legs together. There is a lot to learn! -
All the legs are welded together. -
Adding the bottom rails. -
This step is complete! -
Starting to weld the rails in place between the legs. -
Every weld is a challenge right now! -
All the flower stands are welded together. -
Setup to finish grind all the welds. -
Step1: I use a WALTER Mill Scale disc with great success! -
Here is the weld after grinding. -
Step 2: I use a PFERD 100 grid pad for finishing. -
It works very well! -
