Today I was able to pick up the drilling templates at Kambium, Inc. in Lakeville. Based on my CAD drawing, 4 sheets of 1/4″ MDF were drilled and routed in preperation for this installation. This template allowed me to drill all the holes for the Minneapolis skyline in the correct location on the jobsite. Here are some pictures to show the process!

Here are the four templates leaning on the wall. -
The individual pieces are connected with these inserts, which will allow to cover the whole area of the wall art with one piece. -
I laid the pieces flat on the floor in front of the wall, and inserted the connectors. The very tight fit allowed me to stand up the whole template in one piece. Also shown here are 2 of the 57 holes that needed to be drilled into the wall. -
Here it is, just secured with some tape to the wall on the top. All the holes were drilled first with a 5mm drill bit. After removing the template, I then redrilled all holes with a 1/2″ bit, then inserted toggle anchors into the holes, and I was ready to install the pieces. -
Here is a closeup of some of the pieces mounted to the wall with 1/4″ 20 hex head bolts of various lengths. -

The customer is very happy and already thinking of the next project for his office! 🙂
