Today I was trying to figure out a way to fabricate the standoffs for the different pieces. I found some DOM tubing that fits nicely into a washer, then made a litte jig to TIG weld the washers to the tubing, and finally welded the standoffs to the first of the building shapes. It’s a good start, and here are the pictures!

After cutting some pieces of tubing, I made this little ajdustable jig to weld the washers to the tubes. -
With the nut I can raise the tube to sit perfectly flush with the washer. -
Fusing the two pieces together with my TIG torch. No filler needed because of the nice fit! -
Before welding I’m grinding of the coating. I hold the washers in place with a magnet. -
Here is a closeup. -
The first four are done and ready for the next step. -
Holding the standoff in place with a bolt to keep it nice and square during welding. -
Here we go! -
First one of the building shapes with the standoffs. -
It is a 1″ space to the wall. -

The pieces will be fastened to the sheetrock wall with a 1/4″ bolt through a toogle fastener. It’s a good start!
