Here are some progress pictures of my next project. I’m fabricating a custom dining table base for my friend Ken, using the same design elements found in the bench bases and end tables. Ken just got back from Hawai, and is excited to see it all done and ready for powder coating. Here is where we are as of the end of today!
-
Here are some of the parts after cutting, ready for the next step. -
The center beam has the letter “W” cut out for Ken’s last name. -
Starting to clamp and weld the end tabs of the center beam. This will allow the table base sides to be bolted to the center beam. -
The next step! -
Here is a closeupl of the cutout. -
Clamping the beam to one of the “bench dogs” puts it at the right height to finish weld the ends. -
A closeup of the welds. -
After grinding. -
I cut the center notches for the leg beams on my plasma table. -
The notches to receive the legs were cut on my cold cut saw and the bandsaw. -
Following the same procedure to weld the leg beams. -
Here is a connection piece placed before welding to cover the cutout. -
The same piece with a view from the outside. -
Clamping it in place for tack welding. -
After finsih welding. -
So far, so good! Tomorrow I will make the other two beams that will be welded on top of the vertical pieces. I will keep you posted!
