I started the next project a few days ago. Ken wants me to build 4 benches for an outdoors dining area. The design and construction is the same as the completed ottoman base and walnut block end tables. Here are the first couple pictures of the process!
-
All the parts have been cut and are ready for the next step. -
After grinding all the miter joints, I started to weld the horizontal top and bottom frames together. -
My welding squares make clamping and welding these vertical frame members so much easier. -
A closeup of one of the corner welds. -
The frst time use of my pull-out “bench dogs”! They put the frames at a very comfortable height for finish grinding the welds. -
Marking the location of all the welds on the frames to ensure a very clean and consistent look. -
Another view! -
Starting the process of finish welding the top frames. -
These frames are sturdy and heavy! They are made from 3/8″ and 1/4″ flat stock. -
All the top frames are welded. Tomorrow I will cut and weld some mounting tabs to hold the upholstered tops.
