Here are my last 3 days working on my new welding table. I was able to complete it by the end of today, and I’m really happy how everything turned out. I still have to finish a few details, but the table is ready to be put to work! Here are some pictures!
On Monday I was able to get my two power strips, one on each end, installed and the wiring completed. I have power for my tools again right at the table.
Yesterday the top plate was delivered! I was really excited, and Profab Welding and Machine, Inc. did a great job cutting all the fixturing holes with their waterjet.
Sitting on top of a water table for hours during cutting, the plate developed some surface rust. I used a lot of WD40 to get rid of it!
Reaming and chamfering all the holes from the top side first. There is a total of 741 holes, so I had my work cut out for myself!
Here is the top side all done and looking good!
To remove the rust on the bottom side, I had to flip the plate over. At approx 1,800 lbs no simple task! I cut a bracket on my plasma table for the lifting slings.
After lifting it off the table base, I used my gantry crane to stand the plate up on edge. I’m so glad I still have it! I thought about selling it, but decided against it!
Then I lowered it back down, exposing the bottom side.
I lifted it back up onto the table base and repeated the process.
Back down on the floor, and the same procedure in reverse with the gantry crane.
I bought some eye bolts to lift the plate from the top.
Here is my little contraption to make it all work!
Lifting the plate up to remove the 2×4’s, and setting it gently down with the correct overhang all the way around. It worked like a charm!
Here is a closeup of a corner.
This new table is about 2.7 times the size of my old table.
