Over the last year, the projects I had a chance to work on, have become much bigger then I had ever anticipated. The 3.5 foot by 5.5 foot welding table that I built 4 years ago, with all its capabilities, is getting too small, and I have decided to build another one. This table will be 5 feet wide by 10 feet long. Today I ordered all the material for the base frame, which I hope to receive either tomorrow or next Monday. The 3/4 inch thick top plate will again have 5/8″ holes in 3″ increments for quick fixturing setup, as had my old table. To eliminate warpage because of heat input, all holes will be again cut by a water jet table, and then individually reamed to the finish size. It will take about three weeks for the plate to arrive at the shop. I had been working on the table design and layout for the last 2 months, and I’m excited to get started! Here are some picks of working on a concept for the legs!
-
I had enough 4″ x 4″ square tubing for a trial. I cut square holes into the tube to receive a height adjustable material support on the front of my new welding table. -
The holes turned out nice and clean! This will be one of the 4 front legs. -
The holes are cut on both sides of the leg. -
The clearance was perfect, and the square tube for the material support slides back and forth nicely. -
The support pushed back to the leg. -
All the front legs of my new welding table will have this support system integrated.
