Today I finished the planter box base sample, so I can show it and get it approved next Monday. Here is completed base, ready for powder coating!
I drafted the base plate in Auto CAD, imported the drawing file into the cultting software, made a few adjustments, and within a few minutes I had a part to work with.
Cleaning the part after cutting.
It fit into the opening with very little grinding. A good start!
I removed the vise on the mill drill to have room enough to clamp the base plate to drill all the holes.
Pilot hole was a 1/4″ diameter, which was drilled up to a 5/8″ diameter in the center.
The outside holes were drilled to tap a 1/2″ thread.
Cutting the threads,
Putting a magnet in each corner to hold the base plate and set the correct depth.
Base plate in place and ready for tack welding.
All welded up, and ready to be shown on Monday.
Stainless steel, 1/2″ hex bolts, serve as adyustable legs for the planter bases. The center hole was drilled for a threaded rod and anker into the concrete sidewalk. That should do the trick!
