Last week, Lorin from the Toll Welding Supplies Store in Apple Valley, introduced me to some awesome beveling equipment. I couldn’t get it out of my head ever since, because it would have been a great solution to bevel the top components of the rolling ladder. So today I bought a little handheld trim router and some bits to see if I could get it to work as a poor mans version. It worked really well, considering it cost only about 10% of the real deal. It surely would not be able to hold up and perform on the same level as the professional “Bevel Mite”. Here are some pictures to show the results!
This is the look of a 1/2″ mild steel edge after plasma cutting.
The same edge after grindung on my belt grinder.
This is the professional bevel tool in its different versions. I had a chance to try one last week, and was really impressed. It comes with a high cost though!
Today I bought this little Makita Trim router with adjustable speed and soft start features.
Clamping the first piece to my welding table. I dialed the adjustable speed to the lowest setting, and set the depth for the router bit.
Here is the first cut, and I was really impressed!
Beveled the piece on both sides.
Another one of the pieces after beveling!
The bit lasted to get the tree pieces done and still has some life left.
A closeup of the beveled edges.
I love the finished look the pieces have now!
It will also improve the adhesion of powder coat around those edges.
