I was asked to develop and fabricate some custom brackets to support a quarz bar top. The brackets are to be mounted to the front of existing cabinetry, and a 1/4″ steel support top will be bolted to the top of the brackets. All the steel components will be powder coated in high gloss white. After drafting all the parts in CAD, I started cutting the parts today. Here are some pictures to show how far I was able to get today! Enjoy!
All the parts are cut from 1/4″ mild steel. Here is the leftover scrap.
Drilling some holes in preperation for tapping.
Tapping the top plates of the brackets.
The parts are ready for welding.
I made myself a simple jig to clamp all the pieces in place for welding.
The first one is ready for some tack welds.
Base plate tacked in place.
Back plate finish welded.
Here is the setup to weld the top plate, using the same jig.
Top plate clamped in place.
Top plate tack welded.
Top plate finish welded.
I clamped the bracket to mu welding table to check on squareness after welding.
I’m very happy how the first one turned out.
Here are the seven brackets, ready for the next step. More tomorrow!
