I’ve been struggling to display pieces of metal art at the shop for the last year. I had them stacked on one of my carts, and clients who stopped by for a pickup or just to visit, had to go through the stacks to see if there was something else they liked to purchase. For a few months I had them leaning on the inside of one of my overhead doors, which helped, but was cumbersome as I had to remove all the pieces if I wanted to open the door. In preperation for my first 6L Designs SHOP SALE next month, I had to come up with something better and more permanent as a display. Feel free to check it out!
I wanted to have something easy to move around the shop, on casters, and easy to break down, in case I would want to set up a display somewhere else. Here are ome of the pieces of the base after cutting.
All the pieces are welded up, with the plates for the casters in place.
Here is one of the two base frames all put together.
The frame can easily be split in half for easy transport.
I made some frames for the display panels out of aluminum U-channel and TIG welded the pieces together.
I’m using dense insulation foam, so I can use nails to hang the metal art pieces.
The frames are connected in the center with two hinges. I can pull the pins to seperate the panels.
The top portion is removable, so I can replace the panels if I have to.
I made these little brackets with slide over the base frame and hold the display panel frames in place on the bottom.
Here is a picture of the outside bracket.
I added a cross member on top for more ridgidity. and started painting the panels with latex paint.
After two coats of paint, the panels are ready to display some metal art.
I started to hang some of the pieces, and it will be interesting to see how the foam panels are able to support the weight.
