I was able to continue to work on the tree silhouette, and got a lot of welding done! Here are some progress pictures from today!
I started to align the pieces and tack welded them together.
Finish welding across the face.
The three pieces are all welded and finish grinded!
I cut some 1 1/4″ backing strips off the edge of a 16ga sheet. These pieces are welded to the back as spacers to the wall, and to mount the LED lighting after powder coating.
Here is a closeup of the backing strips.
This took some time! A lot of hand bending to follow the shape of the outline of the tree. The pieces are welded on to the back with a setback of 5/8″ to hide the LED lighting.
After all the backing strips are in place. It stiffened the whole tree nicely!
Another view of the backside!
A picture of the front. I’ll take it to the jobsite tomorrow to make sure it will fit through all the door openings and into the space before it goes to the powder coating company. Better safe than sorry!
