As part of a kitchen remodel, the client wants to extend the contertop of the center island to allow for more seating on one end. I’ve been asked to provide the steel support to make it happen. Yesterday I received the round tube for the leg, and after some CAD work, I was able to start cutting the parts. Today I was able to get it all wrapped up, so I can deliver it to JIT Powder Coating in Farmington tomorrow. Here are some pictures to show the process!
The parts for the top after plasma cutting!
Getting the two pieces aligned and held in place with magnets.
Flipped over and ready for welding.
Welded on one side!
Welded on the other side.
Cutting the round tube to ensure it is square at the end.
I cut a piece of plate to be welded into the tube, to allow for some hight adjustment.
After welding the nut in place.
Here is the base plate with the bolt welded from the back side!
All cleaned up and ready to go!
Leg with the base plate in place.
Cutting the leg to the exact length.
Clamping all the parts to my welding table to ensure everything is lined up straight and square.
Works like a charm one way!
And the other direction!
The leg tube is slightly recessed to allow space for the welding bead.
All welded up.
Here it is, right side up! Ready for powder coating!
