Time for an update about the last two days working on my sheet metal rack. Here are some pictures about building the right side of the rack that will hold the jib crane.
The right side of the rack has a 6″ x 6″ corner post to hold the jib crane. This adds a significant amount of weight to the frame. Here I’m in the process of setting up the pieces to be welded together.
Here is a detail of the weld beads around the angle profiles. They will have to hold a lot of weight in the near future!
Moving the frame, flipping it over, to weld all the pieces all around, is only possible with my homemade gantry crane.
Here I’m lifting the frame off the welding table to start drilling the mounting holes for the jip crane.
I got the hole pattern from the crane specs. Hopefully they are correct! I will know for sure by the end of the month when I’ll get the crane delivered.
More holes to drill!
My new magnetic drill is performing flawlessly! It makes drilling all these holes a breeze!
End of the day! Both side frames are standing upright, just waiting for the cross members to connect them. Tomorrow will be the day!
