After finishing the tapered legs, I started working on the table base frame, which will hold at some point the pull-out extensions and table leaves. This is one big dining table, and it has some substantial weight to it too. Here are more pictures of the progress!

Cutting the side skirt ends at an angle with the cutting wheel. -
Done! After grinding. -
Drilling the mounting holes for the heavy duty slides. -
Tapping the holes. -
Starting to weld the table frame components together. The big table makes it easy! -
A closeup! -
Clamping the tapered legs in place before welding. -
Just making sure! -
All the corner legs are welded in place. The table base is taking shape. -

Taking the table base off the welding table. -
I wouldn’t be able to do it without a forklift. -
Standing it up for the first time. -
Here we go! Looking good! -
On my rolling stands, to be able to move it around easier. -
Cutting the skirt gussets on my plasma table. -
After cleaning, and ready for welding! -
After welding the gussets in place. -
Another view. -
Checking on the flatness of the table base. -
The string on 1/2″ blocks helps to see how much heat distortion has affected the frame by welding. -
I heat treated a few spots to counteract the movement caused by welding the components together. -
Right at the moment there is a 1/8″ crown over the 12′ length. Im happy with that. -
The full extesion slides came in! -
All the mounting holes worked nicely! -
Another view! -
The slides extended over the full length of 60″ the slides are rated at 500 lbs load capacity as a pair.
