A friend and fellow Yamaha Raider rider from Florida sent me a message a few days ago, asking for a custom piece for his motorcycle. Owning the same model allowed me to take measurements on my bike and test fit his piece, so it should be an easy install on his bike after the finish has been applied. He is considering either cutom paint to match his bike, or chrome plating. I had fun making this piece and communicating back and forth to make sure he likes it. Here are the pictures to show the process of fabricating this piece!
-
First step after taking measurements, was cutting a piece of cardboard to check on size and shape. -
After having the correct dimensions, and communicating with Ray, I was able to do the layout in CAD and the CNC cutting software. Here is the piece after cutting on the plasma table. -
I shaped the bottom portion by hand to follow the contour of the frame rails. -
Bolting it to the frame to figure out the top clamp and spacer. -
The plate also covers and protects the oil filter. -
Slicing a piece of round tube. -
The piece to the right will be fitted to wrap around the top portion of the frame. -
Here is the piece, fitted in place. -
Fabricating the spacer for the top clamp. -
Here is the top clamp and spacer in place after welding. -
After locating the placement and drilling the hole, I was able to bolt it in place. -
The frame cover is mounted to the bike. It fits very well! -

And another one!
