We have an empty spot in the plantings right next to our front door, and my sweetheart was asking me if I could come up with a decorative piece to fill this void. Because our backyard borders to a beautiful pond and wetland area, she thought a Blue Heron sculpture would look great. Here are the pictures of the newest piece for our home!
First step was cutting the silhouette of a Blue Heron out of a piece of 3/8″ mild steel plate.
After cutting the round 1/2″ base plate, I was using my “Firetool” welding square to clamp the Blue Heron in place for welding.
I fabricated some cat tails from 3/8″ steel rod and some 3/4″ tubing.
After welding the tube to te rod, I rolled the rod on my roll bender.
Here are some pictures after welding the cat tails in place.
Because of its weight, I used the forklift to get the piece off my welding table. Much easier!
