Last Saturday I prepared the shop for building all the steel components for the “Love your melon” trade show display. One of the many challenges on this project are 8 floating shelves to be incorporated into the display wall. They are to be 8 feet long and without visible seams. Here are some pictures of the making the test piece out of 16 ga sheet metal.
First I bought a metal cold cut saw to cut the kerfes into the sheet metal.
After cutting a piece on my plasma table, I got ready to cut a kerf with the skill saw. A close up of the cutting line!
Luckily my son David stopped by at the shop, and he was excited to lend me a helping hand. So we had a chance to do it together.
We used a 1 1/2″ x 4″ rectangular tube to bend the sheet metal.
The edges turned out very clean and crisp.
All I had to do was welding some caps into the ends.
