I love the building that I rent for my shop space, but there is one significant downside to it! I don’t have any water supply in my shop! During Winter, because of the dry air, the water in my plasma table evaporates at an exellerated rate. Last winter I bought water at the store to make up for the loss, but I neeed to have a more permanent solution. A friend of mine found a used water storage tank for me to use, and after giving it some thought and some CAD development, I ordered some material to build a water storage solution to fit my needs. The first thing I wanted to do, was to replace the old, wooden pallet, that came with the tank. Here are some pictures to show the process of building the new pallet!
Here is the tank the way it came! Glad my friend knew where to find one!
I cut some tubing and started to weld the frame of the pallet together.
After welding the frame, I cut a piece of 12ga steel sheet metal to go on top of the frame.
I had some D-rings to start, and decided to bolt the cage to the top for easy removal of the tank, just in case!
The new pallet, after drilling and tapping, on the floor, ready to receive the water tank.
Here is the old pallet! I didn’t trust it to be able to hold together once I fill the tank.
After moving the tank onto the new pallet, I used the forklift to lift the cage on top of the tank.
I’m glad to have the equipment to make the job easier! Lowering the cage over the tank!
The pre-drilled and tapped holes in the pallet top.
Plates bolted down to hold the cage and tank in place.
Part 1 of the project done. Come Monday I will be able to fill the tank with water. It holds approximately 280 gallons of water! That should last me through the winter, hopefully! 🙂
