After building the two frames yesterday, it was time to confront the challenging swivel plates and to integrate the stops. After checking everything twice and printing a detailed CAD drawing, I was ready to go. Here are the pics of building the swivel plates on Day 2!
After cutting these plates on my plasma table, I was ready to weld the threaded studs in place.
The plate rests on some aluminum spacers to get the correct length of the studs.
All studs welded, and mounting plates ready for the next step.
The bottom plates receive a square tubing spacer on top.
The stop is welded to a bottom plate.
The bumpers for the stops came in today. I cut some flat stock into small blocks.
Drilling the stop blocks.
Tapping the blocks.
Test run!
All the stop blocks are done and ready for welding!
Grinding the extension plate and block for welding.
Welding the stop blocks.
Welding the extension plates to the swivel plates.
Here are the swivel plates after welding all the pieces in place. The bottom swivel plates are in front with the stops for the open position. The top swivels are in the back, with the stops for the closed position. The threaded bumpers allow for adjusting the open and closed position.
