I’ve had a good time continuing on my sheet metal rack today. Finish welding the cross bars and assembling the rack was a lot of fun!
Here are the pics!
Before welding all the connector plates to the cross bars, I had to do some grinding to allow good weld penetration all the way around.
Here are the two pieces aligned befor welding, showing the V-groove for the weld bead.
First of the four cross bars complete!
All done and ready to be bolted to the vertical frames.
Another view to show the weld going all around.
Lifting the crossbars in place with the gantry crane. Nice and easy!
A view of the grade 8 hex bolts before tightening on the 6″ x 6″ corner post.
After all cross bars are bolted in place, it is time to determine angles to cut for the front brace. It will be welded to the cross bar.
Bottom angle to be cut!
Top angle to be cut!
I lifted the 4″ x 4″ tube with the gantry crane onto my 14″ metal bandsaw. The back end is suported by my adjustable and mobile shop jack.
The front of the tube resting on the saw table befor cutting!
Slow and easy wins this race! It’s a big piece to cut on my little bandsaw, but she runs right and true!
I love my tools and what they allow me to do!
More to follow in the near future! Stay tuned! 🙂
